Thank you AD for featuring our project, and special thanks to our chief designer Fiona Bao (@fionabao626) for bringing this vision to life with such sensitivity.

At Groundwork Design Group, "Xing Xing Zhai" in Shenzhen-Futian is deeply personal to us—a renovation we call "romantic eclecticism," where objects find subtle affinities and light awakens each piece like an old memory.

Concept & challenge: A circular ceiling meets a square floor—a quiet ritual that shifts your mood the moment you enter. A 2m² bay window catches daylight through a small curtain corner, turning sunlight into something intimate. Fiona's desk, with its diagonal composition and mortise-tenon joinery, was born from our shared habit of sitting askew during long conversations. Even the shower holds an eternal dusk, where function melts into feeling.

Every angle, joint, and shadow had to earn its place—a delicate balance between old-house constraints and the poetry we hoped to create.

From Shenzhen's The Veil at Sungang to West Kowloon's Fire Dragon at M+ –
from kindergartens to corporate headquarters –
we don't believe in boxing design into "architecture" or "interior."
Space is a vessel. Time is the narrative. People are the heart.
